In Europe, the McLaren MP4-12C will carry a starting price of €200,000 in mainland Europe and £168,500 in the UK. For the U.S., the MP4-12C will start at $229,000 plus $2,400 for destination in order to obtain this exotic supercar with a healthy pedigree. Hit read more for details.
“With the 12C’s technologically advanced MonoCell carbon-fiber chassis, highly efficient yet powerful 3.8-liter 592 hp powerplant, a dry weight of less than 2,900 lbs., and every detail down to the switchgear bespoke to McLaren, we have achieved our performance and design objectives. We are extremely proud to be able to offer the 12C at a price that has not been realized by a carbon fiber-based vehicle before,” said Antony Sheriff, McLaren’s managing director.
Scheduled to enter production later this year, the MP4-12C will compete with theFerrari 458 and Lamborghini Gallardo. Recalling the wedge shape of the legendary F1, the MP4-12C also shows hints of inspiration from its Italian rivals.
Power comes from a 3.8-liter mid-mounted V8 delivering 592 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. of torque. The twin-turbocharged M838T motor is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and can spin up to 8500 rpm. Of course, the torquey motor achieves 80 percent of its peak twisting power below 2,000 revs, so flirting with the redline can be saved for special occasions.
