The 2011 Compass is available with Jeep’s Freedom Drive II all-wheel drive system, allowing for the first Compass ever to come from the factory with a ‘Trail Rated’ designation. Compass models equipped with the Freedom Drive II system borrow some suspension components from the larger Grand Cherokee, and also ride an inch higher than standard models.
Power for the base-model Compass is supplied by a 158 horsepower 2.0L engine. Up-level models receive Chrysler’s 172 horsepower 2.4L engine, with buyers of either engine able to choose between a five-speed manual or CVT gearbox. Jeep says the 2011 Compass achieves the best fuel economy of any 4×4 in the class, delivering up to 28mpg.
Official pricing has yet to be announced for the 2011 Compass, but its improvements are expected to come at a premium. Whereas the current model lists from $15,365, the 2011 model is expected to carry a base MSRP of $19,995. Adding all-wheel drive will increase that bottom line to $21,695.
