Ok so this isn't news per se, but it is pretty cool and who doesn't like Angry Birds? More to the point, who doesn't like cake? It was created by fonatic71, a chap over on Flickr and I have to say he's done a smashing job.

Android comes with a pretty great set of live wallpapers built in as I explained to you earlier- and some manufacturers add their own, too - but if you're ready for a change of pace TAT has just dropped three of 'em for free. Called Artemia, Blue Range, and Retro Pixels, the trio run the gamut from dreamy aquascape to eBoy-esque 3D environment to 8-bit gaming, and they're all interactive in one way or another -- poking and shaking both seem to have interesting effects. They're in the Market now, so you may as well grab them for free if you've got a compatible phone. 

Review of LG Optimus T aka Optimus One!

As android becomes more common place and a variety of devices make their way into the market for Android phones, manufacturers are increasingly introducing offerings aimed at the low end segment. But who is to say that you cant get the latest version of android (froyo) in the low end range. In comes LG Optimus T aka Optimus on (in UK) this is bound to be another low end contender with Froyo on board and it is pitted by LG to openly battle the Wildfires and IDEOS" of the world! Unlike the affordable Huawie IDEOS we reviewed earlier this phone does not have the stigma of a Chinese brand and it is yet to be know if the device will have poor touch sensitivity like the IDEOS. But with an 800 MHZ processor, a nice 3.2 MP camera and all the features of FROYO (wifi hotspot and 720p High definition video recording and an excellent camera unlike other high end Android phones) onborad, this device is bound to make ripples in the low end market. This device is available on T-Mobile for free on contract. With and expected price of around Rs. 25,000/- in Pakistan, be sure to keep and eye on  this device as this will bring Android to the masses and will be one of the first cheap Android devices made by a top tier manufacturer!

Nokia is complaining?

In a comment from Jo Harlow, Nokia's Senior VP of Symbian Smartphones we hear that the new CEO has finally shifted the priorities of the company in the right direction. The interface for the symbian platform is the main preference now at long last. She also complained that it is a challenge to the company to work on the symbian platform in the midst of all the symbian bashing going on in the blogosphere. While we would have to admit to being guilty of the charge ourselves we must come out and let it be known to all that in our heart of hearts, we are still loyal Nokia fans. We are still rooting for Nokia to finally make it right and not only catch up but to overtake everyone else in the touchscreen race (that Nokia was slow to recognise initially). With the immense amount of resources and the goodwill that Nokia enjoys amongst it loyal customers, nothing should stop the company from coming up with a kick ass product specially now that its got its priorities in line. So lets all just give the company a united thumbs up!

Cloud computing is making IT greener

Cloud computing is becoming a catalyst for greener computing. It can reduce the amount of energy companies expend in IT, and the economics of running a large data center is driving providers to find innovative new ways to reduce energy costs.


The study, conducted by IT consulting firm Accenture, found that small companies reaped the greatest benefit by moving their application office premises, reducing energy use and carbon emissions by as much as 90 percent. Large enterprises topped out at a still significant 30 percent.

That just quantifies what we already know: Small businesses have been buying much more computing muscle than they need, and today’s processors sop up more energy than their lower clocked predecessors. Let’s face it; most small business workflows don’t require bleeding edge hardware.

Successor to the Google Nexus One - The Samsung Nexus S perhaps?

The rumored Samsung Galaxy S is all but confirmed by now. It is definitely going to be one of the more popular devices next year due to awesome specifications. It has a  4.3- or 4.5-inch "sAMOLED2" display, presumably standing for "Super AMOLED 2" and implying that Sammy's made some advancements over the screens we've been seeing on the Galaxy S series this year. It'll naturally have Android Gingerbread (v 2.3) and be equipped with an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p video capture, 14.4Mbps HSPA, Bluetooth 3.0, a 1.2GHz core of some sort, and 16GB of storage onboard. The deck describes it as having an "ultra sleek design," and judging from the side shot above, we'd tend to agree. As you can see, this device is made by Samsung and is the likely successor to Nexus One from Google which was basically high end hardware to showcase the new OS (Froyo), it seems that Google has chosen Samsung this time around. We can't wait to get our hands onto one of these devices to review them!

Gartner's global phone sales rankings are here - Android proves untouchable!

So this years Gartner's Sales rankings are out and guess who's the dominant winner. And its been pointed out, the Gartner report puts Android at 25.5 percent market share, moving past BlackBerry OS to become the number two smartphone platform behind Symbian (they've got iOS at third, BlackBerry fourth). Considering the platform's trajectory this year and sheer variety of Android phones now being solid worldwide, it's no surprise. So here we go again, Android shows no signs of slowing down. While Nokia notably has lost a big chunk, 8.5% year over year market share!
